Corrected results for BMAF 5k Championships based on optimum women’s team compositions.
The previously published female team results assumed no older runners counting down, with only Newcastle Staffs finishing a team in the 35-44 category.
However, it has been pointed out that athletic clubs had no opportunity to declare counting down due to the BMAF teams which applied on the day (due to the lack of club data gathered by the race organiser). Had club teams applied, it is reasonable to expect that clubs would have requested “counting down” to make up a team where possible.
We have revisited the Horwich results, and have calculated Female 35+ Teams, assuming that older athletes count down to make up any incomplete team.
This changes the outcome, based on overall individual finishing positions:
Gold – Jarrow & Hebburn (Elaine Leslie, Claire Simpson, Heather Robinson) 241 points
Silver – Newcastle Staffs (Michelle Buckle, Wendy Swift, Rachel Tweedie) 293 points
Bronze – Salford Harriers (Claire O’Connor, Hayley Winder, Denise Wakefield) 351 points
We regret the disappointment caused to Newcastle Staffs, but believe this is the fairest resolution of the team results.
