Statistics of the BMAF entries to the European Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships in Torun starting 23rd March 2015

An interesting statistic has emerged from the final list of 2,409 competitors who have entered a total of 4,887 events at the European Masters Indoor Championships 23-28 March. The British W35 team claim pole position in 8 of the 14 Indoor events with new recruit Claire Spurway, SCVAC, fastest over 60m (7.57sec) from Ellena Ruddock, MMAC, (7.80) in a 19-strong field. Ellena’s 25.50sec lead over the 20 entered in the 200m. VAC members Susie McLoughlin takes on all-comers over the 400 and Joanne Locker heads up the 1500/3000m entries. Two EVAC athletes, Gemma Eastwood and Leanne Buxton lead in the pole vault (3.40m) and Pentathlon 3563pts. Eleanor Gatrell, SCVAC, amazingly leads a European Championships field in the Shot. The remaining 6 events are shared by a Latvian in the 800m, Germany in the 60mH, HJ, LJ, Cz. Rep in the TJ and a Spaniard tops the 3000m walk.  I cannot recall any one country being so dominant in any one Age Group before and we are not the largest entry here.

The other Age Groups also feature prominently with W40 Louise Rudd top in the 1500m, W45 Irie Hill and Alison Murray 1 and 2 in the PV, W50 Gaye Clarke 60mH, W55 Karen Brooks, 800m Jane Horder and Carole Filer 1 and 2nd 60mH. W60 Helen Godsell leads in the 60m where 4 in the top 5 are BMAF and Caroline Powell still reigns supreme over 400m, Sue Yeomans leads in the PV. W65 Ros Tabor who has been running so well this season, is No 1 over 400m/800/3000m and Angela Copson leads in the 1500m. Inspirational sportswomen!

The male side can also claim their kudos as SCVAC member Mark Finlay’s 6.61sec positions him top of the 60m 38-strong field. Three Britons feature in the top 4 over 400m, Richard Beardsell, Lawrence Baird and David Brown, behind the host country’s Piotr Klimczak who gives a formidable 45.60sec as his Season’s Best!  If he was past his 35th birthday at the time, it is well inside the current 47.35 European Record.  M45 Jason Carty is fastest of the 47 entrants in his 60m race.

Several others feature prominently, but whatever your aims are, we wish you all an enjoyable and successful trip to Poland.
