In Memoriam

General – Written by Bridget Cushen on 23/11/2016

We are sorry to hear of the passing of the former IAAF General Secretary and Masters athletics supporter, John Holt, at his home in York on 17 November from a heart attack, aged 77.

I got to know him quite well from 1984 when the IAAF was based in London and they started to get involved with World Masters Athletics. I was the Liaison Officer between the two Bodies as I was on WMA Council at that time and had a meeting with him once a week. He was a visionary, passionately promoting athletics for all, steering the IAAF to holding a World Championships, World Cup, World Indoor Championships and a World Junior Championships. He would have also helped to unite Masters with their National Governing Body had he continued post 1991.

Our sincere condolence to his wife Ann and their two sons.
