England versus …… a Celtic Nations Composite Team
Taking place within the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k on Sunday 6th May, 2018.

England Athletics would like to invite age group runners from the home countries including Isle of Man and Ireland to enter this event and form part of a composite team to challenge an England team.

If you are eligible to run for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man or Ireland, with a performance meeting the qualifying standard in the last 12 months, and would like to be on start line just behind the elite runners, then just send an email with your details to Charlotte Fisher, Road Running Manager for England Athletics. If you don’t meet the standard but you would still like to be part of the team, then also send your email to Charlotte Fisher so that she can include the best runners based on performance, if there are still spare places in your age group.

Details of this international race and how to apply are given here. You will have to be quick however as England Athletics have left it very late to inform everyone what they are hoping for and they have set a deadline of 15th April to finalize the Celtic team. Entries are stated as being on a first come first served basis but there are 6 places in every masters 5-year age group available. Once they inform the athletes that have been accepted, they can then enter the Birmingham 10k in the normal way (there will be places available for them) and arrange their travel/accommodation.

In parallel with this note, we are contacting your respective masters athletics associations and asking them to agree with the national federations (SA, WA, ANI, AI, IOMAA) that the competitors will be able to wear a national vest, since there won’t be a Celtic team vest. Whether this is awarded to each team member or they are asked to purchase it is for each federation to decide.

Walter Hill, BMAF Road Race Secretary
