Well what a fantastic start to my term as Records coordinator!
Six World Records, Four from Anthony Whiteman, one each for Angela Copson and Roald Bradstock. Mick Jones is also targeting the world M50 Hammer record at Birmingham on Sunday 25th June
Whiteman who won Commonwealth Bronze, and a European Indoor Silver in the 1990’s had a terrific treble with Records at 800 metres,1500 metres and Mile in the Indoor season.
He turned up at my door with all three record forms following his move into the M45 age group. What great times they were too 1:52.96 for 800 metres, 3:54.94 for the 1500 metres and the good old mile in 4:12.94.
He has started the outdoor season in great form, with a World Record 1:50.52 in the Loughborough International. Tony still has the paperwork, but when I emailed him he said” I hope to go quicker this year”. Well he is competing in next weeks British World Championship Trials, so that’s possible.
Angela ran the Midland Masters Championships on the 4th of June, and smashed the existing W70 figures for 1500 metres with 5:46.9, and this performance has been speedily recognised by World Masters.
American based Brit Roald Bradstock, has just moved in to the M55 age group and unleased a massive 66.76 with the 700gm spear. The effort in Clermont at the USTAF Training Camp Stadium, awaits formal recognition by both European and World bodies.
Mick Jones M50 has two Commonwealth Hammer Medals Gold and Silver, he has also won 7 National Titles as well as coaching a group of 30 throwers. Busy man but he is now into the Masters group throwing the lighter 6k implement, and in his first competition set a new British Record. Surpassing that with a massive 69.04 European Record. He is entered for this weekend’s British Masters Championships and a new World Record could be on the cards.
British International Conrad Williams has joined the ranks as a M35, and has lowered the British Record to 46.54 in Geneva last week. He needs ,however, to get below 45.76 to challenge the European Record.
Guy Bracken M55, and John Skelton M65 joined the list of British Record Breakers with 9:04.2 and 10:19.82 in the 3,000 metres. Diane Baldwin has set a new British Record of 9:21.32 in the 2000 Steeplechase. Monique Krefting and Julia Machin share the W45 400 Hurdles Record with 64.56, and Lynne Newton cleared 1.10 in the Pole Vault to record the only W70 Pole Vault clearance we have on Record.
