Overview

We are a Federation of geographically located clubs covering the whole of Britain & N. Ireland with over 5,000 active athletes from aged 35 upwards. Our remit is to encourage, organise and regulate athletics in 5-year age groups for the ‘Master Athlete’.

Whatever your current level of fitness or age, there is a place for you in the true Corinthian spirit. Whether you would like to try the long jump, throwing events like the javelin or discus, or run any distance from the 60m indoor right up to the marathon, cross country, race walking or relays, you will be competing against athletes in your own age category and older, right across the whole spectrum of the sport.

The benefits of membership:

  • Local competition, club newsletter and social events
  • Make new friends with similar interests
  • Opportunity to compete in British, European and World Championships
  • Opportunity to purchase distinctive Club or British sportswear

The BMAF promotes many national championships annually including track and field (both indoor and outdoor), road running, race walking and cross country.  The area clubs are involved in local leagues and in organising other races suitable for all standards.

The BMAF was a leading member country in the formation of World Masters Athletics and later European Masters Athletics. Our members compete in the European and World Championships with more than 10,000 other competitors.

Britain hosted the XIII World Veterans Track & Field Championships in 1999, simultaneously at Gateshead, Jarrow and Chester-le-Street stadiums.  It was the largest track and field championships ever staged in the British Isles with around 6,000 competitors from 74 countries participating.

You can still retain your membership of your UK athletics club or other sport and join a BMAF club to get extra specialist competition.  You may have higher targets, the biennial European, World Track & Field, Indoor Championships, or the European Road Races/Walks are all open to you and you can travel far and wide with the large and very successful British Masters.  Athletics is a sport for Life.
