On the web site Martin Burke the Race Promoter and his team recorded that they were proud to incorporate the BMAF Half Marathon Championships within their race. I need to record that we were delighted to be asked.
The web site described the course as flat and fast and I can confirm that this was the case. I can also confirm that although the roads were not closed I only witnessed one car throughout my journey over the traffic free tarmac lanes of Romney Marsh. Yes Romney Marsh is a unique area and could resemble the English country side as it was in the 1930’s.
However, although the country side resembled the 1930’s we had modern day technology attached to our feet in the form of a timing chip.
The chip timing provided us with an accurate set of results very quickly. This then led to a delightful prize presentation where all but two medals were presented.
In short the Lydd Half Marathon is a unique and safe race, over a very fast and accurately measured course. The chip timing was excellent and the finishers were awarded with a technical t-shirt, a medal and adequate refreshments.
My aim is always to meet the needs of our members in different locations of Great Britain. The Lydd met those needs and provided us with very fast times to bank for 2013.
Can I personally thank Dave Beattie from the SCVAC whose assistance before the event and on the day was instrumental in the success of the event.
The results for BMAF Championship Road Races are always posted on the BMAF web site as soon as possible. I also have the pleasure to record that Road Race reports are published in Athletics Weekly highlighting performances of note. This is very much appreciated.
