metres behind the group. The leading 60+ contender David
Butler (Billericay Striders) still had the leaders in his sights.

This same group of four athletes were still contesting the

front of the field on completion of lap two. Their lead had
only slightly increased from the following group. In this
following group were Ilford’s Malcom Muir, Steve Cairns
(Tyne Bridge Harriers) and Ben Reynolds. Sunderland’s

Paul Merrison was contesting the M55+ section with Colin
Feechan (Ron Hill Cambuslang) and David Butler was still
holding his first 60+ position.

On completion of the third lap, the title was still within the Ben Reynolds
grasp of any one of this leading quartet as they were still
inseparable, nobody was giving an inch. They had now
developed a 100metre lead over the 50+ leader Ben

Reynolds, with chasing 40+ athlete Steve Cairns a further
75 metres back. 60+ leader, David Butler.

Someone had to break the deadlock on this last lap and it RACE 1 WOMEN & MEN 65+ 6K

Once again we had successful, competitive days racing

supplied by our hosts the SVHC. The course was superb, it

was “a real cross country course “, and although the

conditions were a headache for them, they provided a first

class event. The facilities at Tollcross Swimming Pool, for

our changing and presentation, were second to none, (It is

the venue for this year’s Commonwealth Games).
