Teams from as far away as Kirkintilloch, Bristol & West, Les Croupiers from Cardiff to Aldershot from the South flocked to sunny Sutton Park on Saturday 14th for the annual BMAF Road Relays. With 57 teams contesting the men’s 6-stage 35-44 age category and 37 in the Women’s group, run over three stages; the well-known Midland statistician Brian Owen and his brother Phil in the Commentary Box, families and spectators were able to enjoy another exciting and well informed day’s competition.
The Event Organiser, Mel James, ably supported by Graham Heeley, Walter Hill, Alex Rowe and Referee Archie Jenkins, the times for each stage and full results courtesy Graham Fecitt (SportSoft), went viral almost instantly, athletes were able to monitor who the fastest stage runner in each category might be on their Smartphone and cheer on their club.
Now in its 29th year and up to 19 teams still turning out for the aged 65-plus teams, this popular event should not be missed. The date for next May’s event will be posted on the BMAF Fixtures page shortly for you to pencil in, meanwhile take a look at yesterday’s results/photos on the BMAF Results page and of course there will be full coverage, plus photos, in Masters Athletics and this week’s Athletics Weekly.
