From the North East to the popular Inter-Area Challenge and overseas, the following members made their mark with new British and European Records, subject to ratification:
Stephen Peters blazed to a M65 European 200m Record in an amazing 25.14sec at the Inter-Area Challenge in Solihull on Sunday. This was no easy record; the previous time of 25.45 had stood for fourteen years to the great German Guideo Muller at the European Masters Championships in Aarhus in 2004.
Alison Bourgeois moved into the W65 Age Category this year and in an 800m race in Ambilly, France on 23 June, our Swiss-based member took the European 2.42.75sec record from her British colleague, Nancy Hitchmough, speeding to 2.42.18sec.
Neil Tunstall broke Tony Wells long standing M55 100mH British Record when scoring maximum points for EMAC at the Inter-Area, he clocked 14.93sec.
Guy Bracken ran 1500m in 4.20.7sec up at Jarrow on 23 June to lower his own 4.22.28sec that he set in winning the European title last year in Aarhus.
Edmond Simpson who has been out of the news for too long, made the long journey from Basingstoke to the North East a memorable one when he raced to an M80 Mile time of 7.25.3sec, also in Jarrow.
Brian Ashwell took a huge chunk out of David Morrison’s M85 800m 4.19.81 record that has been on the books since the World Championships in Gateshead in 1999, when the MMAC man stopped the clock at 3.29.81sec in Nuneaton on 3 June.
Wendy Laing got over 1.50m at the Inter-Area to improve on her 1.49m W55 high jump record from last month.
