We have been publishing occasional items relating how some of our members have been drawn into Masters’ Athletics. We still have a couple of these ready to be published, and of course we’d like more, so do please get in touch with your stories.
But by way of a change this post begins to look at how Masters’ Athletics is portrayed more widely, away from this site as part of our mission is to spread the word more widely and extend the community’s reach.
Stuart Lynn – radio and podcast
A piece that might very well have achieved this is a radio interview between Scott Armstrong and Stuart Lynn broadcast on Nova Radio North East in their Wednesday evening Sports North slot on February 15th 2023. This is a link to it on youtube.
Scott and Stuart cover a wide range of topics including the fear/excitement of taking part in a bit competition, how much training to do, how to deal with injury and some good general advice on how to get into running.

Stuart has also featured on the “Up the Poly” podcast, setting out his route into running and how his attention turned to sprinting
Alex Rotas – photographer
Alex Rotas covers Masters Athletics as a photographer with interesting stories to tell, and as a champion of the masters athlete.
She has also recently begun to cover masters’ cycling, for instance in this Facebook Post and we do have to admit that other sports exist. I find the responses to injury interesting – cyclists seem to be more resilient.
Alex has also recently told stories from the recent indoor championships. These include:
The tale of Lucy Moore who hurdles after having had two hip replacements
Mel Garland, bursting with energy
Rashpal Singh
and Caroline Marler whose story also appears on this site
USATF Masters
The USATF Masters section has a lively and engaging Facebook page. I think Masters athletics in the States has a different structure to ours.
