This is a very brief report on the many events that took place on Saturday, the 24th of January, 2026, at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff.
The British Masters Athletics Federation Championships included the indoor pentathlon for both men and women, and 3000 metre running races for men and women, in all the masters age groups.
In addition, there were the following open events 60m, 200m, 800m, 2000m Race Walk, Triple Jump, Shot, High Jump, Long Jump.
The event also served as the Midland Masters Athletic Club Championship.
Some of the results
W60 – 3000m – Clare Elms – 10m 37.53s – more than 4 seconds inside the 10:41.68 recorded by the WMA as a world record just a few weeks ago
M75 Pentathlon – Alistair Hill – 3,352 points, an improvement on the British record score he set last year of 3,268.
M90 Pentathlon – Tony Bowman – 1,679 points, the first British 90-year-old to complete the indoor pentathlon. This will go down as a record to add to the M80 and M85 records Tony already has.
Pending the return of the power of ten, full results can be found here https://data.opentrack.run/en-gb/x/2026/GBR/bmaf-ipen/
Just a few pictures from the day
Including:

The Venue
The NIAC has over 200 Google reviews with an overall score of 4.5.
The three things I noticed about it were:
- Having an area set aside and a victory rostrum for occasional presentations of medals during the day is always welcome.
- Wendy Kane, the organiser of the event, had set things up to run very smoothly as far as the athletes were concerned. Her occasional announcements calling for volunteers or presenting medals were very clear and well delivered.
- Some of the athletes were wearing outdoor clothing as they waited for their turn.It was quite chilly.
