Over the past few months, the Council, Executive and BMAF Services Ltd have been working together to develop a new, simplified governance and operating structure for Masters Athletics in the United Kingdom.
Good progress is being made and we hope to be in a position to present proposals to members in the coming months.
Whilst a new governance structure is important, the long-term success of the organisation will depend upon having enough people with the skills, experience and enthusiasm to help lead and support Masters Athletics into the future.
Like many volunteer-led organisations, BMAF relies heavily on a small group of committed individuals. We are extremely grateful for their dedication and hard work, but it is important that we broaden our volunteer base and plan for the future.
As part of this process, we are seeking expressions of interest from people who may be willing to contribute in a variety of roles, including:
• Chair or other future director positions;
• Treasurer / Finance Lead;
• Company Secretary or governance support;
• Competition and event management;
• Communications, marketing and social media;
• IT, systems and digital support;
• General administration and organisational support.
Some of these roles will involve significant responsibility and commitment, while others may require only occasional assistance. All contributions are valuable.
We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience in leadership, governance, finance, administration, event management, communications, information technology or other professional skills that could benefit the organisation.
We would therefore ask club representatives to discuss this within their clubs and consider whether any members may be interested in becoming involved in the future governance, administration or delivery of Masters Athletics.
The new structure provides an opportunity to build a strong, sustainable and collaborative organisation that can continue to serve Masters athletes for many years to come.
If you, or someone within your club, would like to explore how you might contribute, please get in touch via recruit@bmaf.org.uk. An expression of interest at this stage does not commit anyone to a particular role but will help us understand the range of skills and experience available within the Masters Athletics community.
Many thanks for your continued support.
