Irie Hill, Clare Elms set new World marks as Carole Filer loses one of hers

Competing in the Munich Indoor Meeting on the 2 February, Irie soared over the 3.50m high bar for a new W50 British, European and World pole vault record. She currently holds the W45 World at 3.55m set at the World Masters Indoor in Budapest in 2014. Meanwhile, M50 Glyn Price, equalled his 4.05m bronze medal winning height at the World Masters Athletics Track & Field Championships Track & Field in Malaga, when he just missed out on a Welsh Senior medal in Cardiff on 27 January.
Making the long journey down from Barnsley to compete in the Annual Ayo Falola Dream Mile, held in Lee Valley in memory of the late London Coach, Rod Scholes’ trip was well worth while as the Yorkshire man ran himself into the British M70 Record Book with a sizzling 6.57.54sec and 12th place overall. Clare Elms’ 5.15.44sec run at the same Meeting takes nearly 5sec off the previous record World Record (5.19.87sec) set in New York back in 2007 by Kathryn Martin, USA.
Monique Krefting’s 58.53 400m run in Lee Valley on 20 January is not only faster than her winning time at the European Indoor in Madrid last March (58.67sec) but is also inside Maryvonne Icarrae (France) European mark of 1.00.17 from Ancona in 2016.
Carole Filer’s W60 2016 Pentathlon mark of 4568pts. has now been bettered by Torun-bound Rosa Esribano, Spain who has recently notched up 4638pts.
