GB W60 relay 4x800m team going for the World Record

The talented British W60 4 x 800m squad with world record holders and world champions Clare Elms and Virginia Mitchell plus fellow world medallists Christine Anthony and Elke Hausler have come together to take on a world record attempt to beat the new USA time which stands at 10:45.23mins (pending ratification).

Having seen that the American 4 x 800m W60 team raced to a new World record at the USTAF Championships in Alabama in July 2025, the British women have been inspired to take on the challenge.

The USA team included the multiple World Champion Sue McDonald who ran the anchor leg.

Since the 4 x 800m is not contested at any international Masters Championships, the ladies are aiming to race at the British Masters Open at Pingles Stadium Nuneaton which is hosted by BMAF and includes the opportunity for athletes to race individually as well as offering relay Masters events.

The GB ladies are feeling positive about going for an average 800m time of 2:41mins to beat the time set by the USA team.

There is also a W65 team entered hoping to break the 4 x 800m record in their  age group.

The GB teams are looking forward to racing at Nuneaton and hope that more relay teams will enter to push them round and increase their chance of success.
