According to a survey for the Sport and Recreation Alliance, Britain’s sports clubs have been battered by the pandemic, with grassroots sports clubs losing 60% of their members during the lockdown.

Keeping the masters athletics flag flying high, however, is the irrepressible Diana Norman of Southern Counties Veterans AC, who erased the previous World and European record score of 4034 points in the pentathlon.

Held since 2004 by our other all-rounder Jenny Brown, Norman raised the mark to a huge 4498 points at the BMAF Championships in Horspath, and she has now finished her season with an almost as impressive 4397 points in the Surrey & Sussex Combined Championships held earlier this month in Carshalton.
