Courtney Gunn, BMAF record-keeper, has posted the following on Facebook:

The age grading factors make an allowance for our advancing years by effectively making the metres shorter and the seconds longer, thereby making our performances much more flattering. For a more learned explanation of all this you might like to look at the World Masters Rankings site.

It is perhaps slightly depressing to think that our past performances are being downgraded. We have to take comfort in the fact that those performances are so impressive it is almost as though we are not as old as people of our age were 10 years ago.
