It is with much sadness that we record the unexpected passing of this much respected World Masters Athletics Official and the current Chair of US Masters, aged 73.
Rex Harvey competed in the decathlon and was a stalwart of the biennial Decathlon/Heptathlon. match we had with the US, but it was his knowledge and experience that was to prove invaluable to Masters athletics worldwide. Without his expertise a few Organisers of WMA Track & Field Championships, they would have found themselves really struggling logistically. Bridget worked with him on both WMA Council and as an elected members of the IAAF Masters Committee for many years and can certainly vouch for that. The last match held was in Sheffield in 2017, where Rex came over as USA Team Manager as well as an official.
Rex had been living with appendix cancer for some years. We are understood that he fell victim to a flu virus currently rampant in the States and suffered a fatal heart attack on 22 December. RIP.
