This note was recently circulated by our Chairman. It sets out the arrangements currently in place for the coming track and field season. These are likey to be subject to change.

The opportunity to become Track and Field Secretary still exists. If you would like to offer your help, Peter Kennedy’s contact details are at the foot of the page.

Dear track & field masters athlete

Whilst we still do not have a Track & Field Secretary, the 2024 winter programme is now being co-ordinated by Michael Hausler and organised by Wendy Kane:

  • 28 Jan: BMAF Indoor Pentathlon & 3000m Championships plus open events/relays to be decided, Sheffield
  • 17-18 Feb: BMAF Indoor Track & Field Championships, Lee Valley, London
  • 02-03 Mar: BMAF Winter Throws Championships, Oxford

Entries will open in the first week of January, supported by OpenTrack instead of a BMAF competition secretary.

The summer programme is not yet planned, except for the main championships in Derby on 26-28 July, and we urgently need to set up a small team to decide on the programme: events, dates and venues. The work would involve an initial planning meeting to decide what we would like to have (the usual events? changes in events/formats?) and a few follow-up meetings/discussions to fit them into the calendar after agreement with the proposed venues. We should aim to finish this work during January.

Similar meetings should then be held in June and September each year thereafter to decide the following year’s indoor and outdoor programmes respectively. The planning team would work alongside the track & field delivery team, chaired by the future track & field manager.

Anyone who is interested in helping to complete our track & field programme for 2024 should contact me by 7th January.

regards

Peter Kennedy
