As of the 1st July, there were close to 28,000 new cases of Covid 19 reported. I have also read of the impact of new cases reported due to the Scotland England game at Wembley.
However, with significant caution the BMAF are determined to provide a service that meets the needs of as many active Masters as possible.
On the 27th June I witnessed a very successful BMAF Trail Championships at Cyclopark in North Kent. Operating as a Covid secure event, Masters in the Championship started in designated age group waves at 1 minute intervals.
They felt safe knowing every precaution had been actioned including unopened bottles of water picked up by the athletes from tables at the feed stations, cakes presented in individual paper bags at the finish and winners medals to be posted.
It is not only our responsibility to promote Championships, it is also our responsibility to have a duty of care to all who enter our events.
Across all disciplines we have worked hard to provide as many fixtures as possible.
On the Road we are working towards a full calendar at 5k,10k,10 mile, Half and a full Marathon for 2021. The only exception will be the Road Relays which have been postponed until May 2022.
The decision to postpone the relays came with a heavy heart but with :-
A suitable venue in doubt.
A very busy Autumn calendar.
And reservations about teams travelling together.
I decided to postpone and promote during the traditional month of May next year.
I am confident in 2022 our Masters Road Relays will shine brightly and build on the success of previous years.
